University of Bremen
High-performing, reform-minded and cooperative – that is the University of Bremen. Its research includes excellent fundamental research as well as application-oriented research and transfer. It offers its 18,000 students a wide range of disciplines with around 100 degree programmes. Sustainability is the University’s central guiding principle.

University of Greifswald
The University of Greifswald is young – since 1456! As a modern comprehensive university with 10,000 students, it is the driving force for research, teaching and innovation in north-eastern Germany. Its main research areas are One Health, the Baltic Sea region and prevention. It is distinguished by its international cooperation and its commitment to economic and social development.

University of Groningen
The University of Groningen is an internationally oriented university with a rich academic tradition. Since its foundation in 1614, the university has produced many distinguished figures, including the first female student, the first Dutch astronaut and several Nobel Prize winners.

University of Hamburg
As a University of Excellence, the University of Hamburg is distinguished by its top-level research, innovation and progress. It is considered the “Flagship University” in the Metropolitan Region, combining innovative teaching, excellent research and diverse transfer of knowledge. The University places a special focus on sustainability and digitalisation, two central pillars of its strategic agenda.

Hamburg University of Technology
Technology for Humanity is the guiding principle of the Hamburg University of Technology. As one of Germany’s youngest technical universities, it educates highly dedicated engineers who focus on both technology and sustainability. The objective: “Engineering to Face Climate Change”.

Kiel University
Kiel University was founded in 1665. With 27,000 students and around 3,700 employees, it is the oldest, largest and best-known university in the federal state between the seas and the only comprehensive university in Schleswig-Holstein. Seven Nobel laureates have worked and researched here. Since 2006, the Kiel University has been successfully participating in the Excellence Strategy of the German federal and state governments.

University of Lübeck
“Focusing on life” – the University of Lübeck represents health, science and social progress. Founded in 1964 as a medical academy, it is now a modern life sciences university with clear profiles in medicine, health sciences, natural sciences, informatics, mathematics, technology and psychology. Since 2015 it has been a Stiftungsuniversität (a foundation under public law). Around 6,200 students can benefit from an interdisciplinary range of study programmes, close links to research and a personal atmosphere.

Leuphana University Lüneburg
Leuphana regards itself as a space for the free pursuit of knowledge, intellectual creativity, personal development, and social engagement. For its studies, it has developed a multi-award-winning study model with three Schools, which is still unique in Germany today. A central component of Leuphana’s profile is to use teaching, research, and the transfer of resulting knowledge to contribute to the transformation of social organisations and businesses.

Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg
The University of Oldenburg is facing the major challenges of the 21st century interdisciplinary, through cutting-edge research and teaching. Founded in 1973, it has over 15,000 students. Since 2012, it has been a successful participant in the Excellence Strategy. It is among Germany’s best universities for promoting start-ups and is a pioneer of the “open university” concept.

University of Rostock
Founded in 1419, the University of Rostock is the oldest university in the Baltic Sea region. With nine faculties and an Interdisciplinary Faculty with four main areas of research, it offers a strong basis for future-oriented, interdisciplinary research and teaching. Around 13,000 students benefit from a wide range of over 170 study programmes – a hidden gem away from the larger universities.
